Lucky Jones
This Ain't Memphis
(Faraday Records)
In one aspect, this is a guitarists' album. Lucky's playing amazes -- it's alternately fractured, pensive, and ambitious. He even shreds. But that he sings with ease increases the materal's appeal. Ultimately, its reward is broad. Who needs major labels when small ones produce more important music?
(Thanks to Robert Pilson of Devil's Brew Productions for the tip on this.)
