It's to their credit that between only the two of them (and wielding acoustic instruments, at that), Gerald and David contrive a rolling musical phenomenon at once personal and universal. Skyscraper-level amplification is not required to produce thunder, as the unplugged pair demonstrates. It could be argued that, in such simplicity, humanity is most visible.
