Sam's resume articulates his bona fides: The singer/guitarist was solicited to toil as musical director for the Florida production of Million Dollar Quartet, in whose cast he was variously featured as Elvis and Carl Perkins. And last year, he starred in New York-based stage show Rockabilly Rumble USA, which revisited a host of chestnuts from the Golden Age.
The ardor of those credits blazes here, though a divergent musical path is broken - one of contemporary vintage. Exuberant and Country grounded Rock'n'Roll that ushers grins, foot-stomps, and dance-floor stormings shakes the house. Sam's is a voice of earnestness. His stringed utterances can scintillate - indeed, stinging declarations and chunkiness elevate when summoned, but understated tenderness also whispers its aura. The star portrays personal depictions with poetic grasp.
This creation stands atop the shoulders of pioneers Sam venerated.
