The Country Side of Harmonica Sam

Back to the Blue Side

(Sleazy Records)

Take her hand and move to the stage-front where couples slowly circle. Under the spotlights, eminently capable and cowboy-hatted hands unspool smooth, leisurely Real Country with an exactly proper measure of polish. As lilts sway, the genial frontman leans mic-ward and intones plain life poetry to which every man and woman can relate. As you and yours step to the bounce, you wonder: 'Could they ever get this on wax?' They now have.

In his liner notes, songwriter Theo Lawrence pronounces: "Their work is characterized by the high standards that used to be the very essence of recordings made for Decca Records in Nashville or Capitol in California, but that somehow got more and more scarce as Country music's path went on."
