Robert Sidney Smith
A Full Scrapbook and an Empty Wallet
(Self-issued)
Whereas another picker might strive to startle with note-flurries encompassing countless scales, Robert is nothing if not shrewd. It isn't until the Shadows' "Foot Tapper" and Gospel standard "Keep on the Sunny Side" -- adopted as signature song by the storied Carter family back in 1928 -- that he allows his impressive soloing skills to have their head. Prior to that moment, the primary player drops only fleeting hints of fretboard ingenuity, wisely preferring to grace ears with serene vocals aboard all-covers mellow efforts in classical Rock'n'Roll, Folk, and Blues fashions. Sit back and dig.
