The Vampires of Kopenhagen

"Vampire World Domination"   digital single

(Gothic Underground Records)

It's with ebony finality that this Goth/Psycho horror tale unfurls, its triumphance stately and bordering on maliciously majestic. Cloak swept to one side, it arches in Stoker-apocalypse fashion. The narrator, pasty-featured and trilling vixen at his elbow, issues morbid pronouncements in tones that signal Earth's conclusion is set in marble. Exactly how "daylight misbehaves" isn't explained, but it's doubtful any mortal would wonder, when all around crumbles and wickedness assumes the universal throne. As Criswell once intoned: "Future events such as this will affect you, in the future!"

Zombina and the Skeletones

A Chainsaw for Christmas   digital EP

(Self-issued)

Initially materializing online in 2006, and now re-emergent, A Chainsaw for Christmas lends kicky unsettlingness to reigning snowball vibe. "The band under your bed" perpetrates a Pop/Psycho/Garage/Goth four-way, with tittilating spookiness being the infectiously aberrant issue. One fantasizes ornaments dangling from Dr. Frankenstein's towering creation.

Recommended: "A Chainsaw for Christmas," "Come On," "Evil Science," "Dead Alive"

Bloodsucking Zombies from Outer Space

"Evocation"   three-track single

(Schlitzer-Pepi Records)

Monstrosities grieved the 1962 shuttering of Paris's infamously ghoulish Théâtre du Grand Guignol. Were it yet extant, BZFOS could serve as its house band. For, amid flamboyant gore props and waxen heads falling under medieval axes, group members (themselves calculatedly grotesque) could monger the palatial poisonous they cultivate. Stitched together for imperial sweep are Goth, Psychobilly, Horror Punk, and related strains that pulse upon stone floors. It's probable that claw marks imprint synth keys and fretboards.

Recommended: "Evocation," "Van Helsing Syndrome," "Monster"

Black Valley Moon

We Sleep    two-track digital release

(Songs From Oa)

Daring sorts who've pushed-wide oak doors of haunted Old Dark Houses during the Witching Hour, will dig the mood oozed by "We Sleep." It unfurls in creeping manner. Players collude with knowing acumen, their dark purpose to fulfill. Cobwebs are ubiquitous. "They're after me, but I ain't runnin'," intones a narrator for whom accursedness is as naught. A Danzig song, "Mother" also advances in ominous languorousness; skin-crawling essence spreads by the inch. Smiles will never gather in these shadows - at least, not innocent ones.

Miguel and the Living Dead

Alarm!!!    (2021 remaster)

(Bat Cave Productions)

Per one representative, the Warsaw/London-based group will issue a new release in early 2025. In anticipation, consideration of the 2021, remastered (black or blood-red) vinyl manifestation of their 2005 debut seems appropriate.

In darkly atmospheric passages, Punk-poisoned guitar, goth preoccupations, and lashing-whip drumwork coalesce. Measured tempos allow for sinister explication. As if from shadows, low-register, ominous narration emanates. At once fearsome and oddly dignified, vocal tones echo. Psychobilly peculiarities stream down cracked walls.

Recommended: "Miguel and the Living Dead," "Aliens Wear Sunglasses," "Graveyard Love Song," "Salem's Lot," "Killer Klowns From Outer Space," "Black Magic Sex Terror," "Sexy Velvet Shadow," "Ghostmaniac"
