Wayne Hancock
Wayne the Train & the Honky Tonk Brakemen, Live Austin 1994
(Happenstance)
Through thousands of grueling gigs, Wayne established himself as a Juke Joint Swing maestro nonpareil. This 2021 record arrived at an efficacious moment, on the heels of Slinging Rhythm (Bloodshot). We behold Wayne prior to the introduction of overtly hillbilly-jazz elements into his unassuming oeuvre. Unlike many retrospectives, which are of interest mainly to completists, this disc offers pleasures for all.
Meanwhile, one hopes Wayne has another studio CD slated.
