The Tazmanian Devils
Evil Boppin'
(Razmataz Records)
When the class of 2005 took '80s-mode razors to their heads, they also found it necessary to affix wings to their creepers. For in numerous cutting precincts - this limited edition, red/black vinyl debut being in that proudly vulgar classification - sleekness hurtled without governance. (Stop signs are best left lying flat.) An exception to general alacrity is "Killing Kind of Love," but it imprints decisively, in tidy method.
Each acquitted themself in high fashion. At the trio's fore was guitarist/singer/songwriter Norman Denks (born Salmi Salmiak), subsequently of Rusty Rockets celebration. His merits loomed large. Slap-bassman David Scheuer's vocals were akin to Dee Dee Ramone's on "Wart Hog" and "Endless Vacation." (One reviewer described Dee Dee's singing as "Popeye on crack") And with unerring preciseness, drummer Laura Kellner marshaled locomotive flight. The core beat sped, not once throwing a glance rearward.
The Tazmanian Devils' maiden wax was reissued in 2023. Let searches commence.
