Dictators NYC
"Supply and Demand" b/w "Kick Out the Jams" (Otis Premium Recordings)

Only good news, here: Not only does the (marginally) different line-up rock as thunderously and athletically as did the inceptive incarnation in storied days passed, but songcraft cleverness further distinguishes this electrifying new era.

"One-man energy crisis" singer Handsome Dick, legendary Les Paul shredding master Ross the Boss, and JP "Thunderbolt" Patterson of the knock-down beat have dynamically effective cohorts in punk guitar veteran Daniel Rey and Dean Rispler, whose muscular bass navigations demand submission. The Dictators NYC detonation leaves the planet smoldering.

Dictators co-founder and songwriter Andy Shernoff does not participate. (Nor does Scott "Top Ten" Kempner, now solo and of the Del Lords.)

Shernoff had temporarily left before, following the original group's 1975 debut. He told later interviewers that his song "Steppin' Out," which appeared on the band's 1977 Epic Records "Manifest Destiny" LP, explained his then-separation.

In 2015, the Andy-less Dictators NYC tell in "Supply and Demand" of their frustration at Shernoff's 15-year refusal to reform, and global Dictator fan desire that now (thankfully) compels them.

At the moment, this limited-edition single is available only online and at tour stops. Doubtless, though, much more lies ahead...
