Eddie and the Hot Rods

Teenage Depression

(Island)

While English punks like the Sex Pistols, Damned, Clash, and Sham 69 were still in the embryonic stage, Eddie and the Hot Rods entered the studio to debut their volatile pub rock/punk-attitude combination.
Like contemporaries, they articulated youthful angst. Unlike some, though, they acknowledged worthy predecessors.

They fit smoothly into the burgeoning safety-pin scene, as their cheeky oeuvre was seemingly new yet proven and eternal: A sleek, guitar-forward blast that met the needs of both callow pogoers and (slightly) older appreciators of Brinsley Schwarz and Dr. Feelgood.
