Murry Robe

Move it Over

(Untamed Records)

A phrase-turning laureate, who sports finger-snapping finery and  manhandles longnecked gut-boxes like they stole something. Great White North slickster Murry, on leave from the Shook Boys, sequestered himself at home so as to cobble this spartan demo bundle. It cruises with aplomb, occasionally hinting at hijinx. And despite couch-and-coffee-table surroundings, he hiccups like he's at a little nightspot on the outskirts of town. That's the way to be.

Recommended: "Hate Our Youth," "Dance with Me," "Wild Ones," "Move it Over," "Rockin' the Lake"

The Slow Drags

Off the Cuff Rock'n'Roll

(Self-issued)

What most recommends the Toronto three (along with their musical mettle), is an ability to summon the swaggering spirit that once led collars-upturned JDs to tear up joints and bird dog milkshake mademoiselles. And as inciting as are rave-ups like "Devilish Lips" and "Whole Lotta Fun," it is lowered-lights belly-rub "Cold Cold Night" (which benefits immeasurably from precisely-on-point 88s) that is most conducive to he-she interactions that are none of your business.

Recommended: "Devilish Lips," "Cold Cold Night," "C'mon," "Money in My Pocket," "Whole Lotta Fun," "Riding Out"

Ichi-Bons

"Get Away" / "Heart Attack"   7" or digital

(In collaboration with Ugly Pop)

Ripsaw fleetness. This Toronto Garage-Punk three stormed across May stage flooring alongside English hearties The Damned, and their newest is limited to just 400 black-vinyl copies. As difficult as it may prove to secure one, then, the greater challenge will be convincing lucky turntables to relinquish it. (Assuming anyone would be so inclined.)
