Outer Space

Nightwork

(Self-issued)

Should some lackwit aver that Ukraine lacks Psychobilly, flip open their cranium and install this with maximum force. Hurtling thrashstorms render language insignificant. Lock, load, and wreck till all around is wasteland. Continue wrecking.

Recommended: "Nichna robota," "Ibash," "Ne khochesh" "Pokynute misto," "Shepit vnochi," "Kathany," "Kris nich," "Sontsea liahaie," "Zalyshaieshsia tut"

Jumpin' Rockets

Astro-Bash!

(DMG Germany)

"Astro-Bash!" and "Jumpin' Rockets" unfurl in the intergalactic-kicks spirit of the boss cover snap. But - deft musical gurus to the left and right - wall-to-wall enchantment here isn't solely composed of spaceman shenanigans. Reserved Jazz stateliness conjures in turns like "Everybody Loves My Baby." Songcraft is thoughtful and many splendored. Graceful guitar glistens. Rhythms soothe. Suggestive quietude washes ashore, only to be suddenly animated by vibrant onrush. "Supernova Bossa," a gentle stroll through absolute pleasance, offers harmonies one might find in a sunflower.

Recommended: "Astro-Bash!," "All Night Long," "Fell in Love with a Stranger," "Love Me Right," "Everybody Loves My Baby," "Jumpin' Rockets," "Wring-Out Boogie," "Only Lies," "I Don't Care," "Hot Rod Racin'," "Supernova Bossa"

The Del Roswells

You Fly the Tic Tac Wrong   digital EP

(Self-issued)

Imagine a police sergeant's flabergastation at a caller's complaining about too-loud music blaring from Area 51. Punks from beyond the Milky Way piloted their saucer with one hand on the wheel, as others bashed out raucous musicalizing. Success at the endeavor is guaranteed by above-question skills. Surely, an interplanetary tour is being blueprinted.

"I come out of hidin' and I started to rock..."

Recommended: "Klattu, Barada, Nikto, Let's Go!" "You Fly the Tic Tac Wrong," "Ullala," "Italian Deep Dish Alien Biscuits"

Guitar Slingers

Greatest Hits   Digital-only release

(Diablo Records)

This reviewer rushes when opportunities to tout personal favorites present themselves. And Guitar Slingers - Psychobilly berserkers with Gretsch-batterer Doyley hectoring at their fore - ricochet between that category's perimeters. Various co-conspirators popped in and exited through years covered, but Doyley and lunatic fury were ever constant. Thunderation laughs derisively at speed laws. Trace elements of Morricone and outer-space hijinx percolate with Rockabilly rampage. Roky Erickson's Dr. Rorsach would surely drop his drawings if confronted by this crooked-grinned, LOUD deluge.

Sam Phillips had no idea the extreme to which his chance breakthrough would one day hurtle.

Recommended: "Fuck You," "Boppin' 'n' Shakin'," "Babylon's Burnin'," "Seven Deadly Sins," "Ska Trek Krew," "Fly with the X-ray Eyes," "Django Il Bastardo" Alien Hooligans," "I Feel Psycho," "Geraldine," "Psycho Mad 'n' Proud," "Hellhouse Stomp," "Psycho Cop," "Rise of the Cybermen," "Never Steal the Devil's Wheels"

Videos: "Fuck You"   "Fly with the X-Ray Eyes" (live 2015)   "Geraldine" (live 2014)   "Rise of the Cybermen"

Back In the Day, 2007

Thee Merry Widows

Revenge Served Cold

(People Like You)

Fantastic tales from beneath and beyond are deliciously enwrapped in hurtling, stitched hulks of dominant slap-bass, death-row poundings, and six-string terrorization. Whips-and-furs mantrap Eva Von Slut commands in stentorian tones, the wicked whole an experience unlike anything espied in sunlight hours.

This was reissued by Gearhead Records in 2015. The label's website is yet online, but it may have suspended operations; an email query has gone unanswered.

Recommended: "Aileen," "The Curse," "All of Them Witches," "Grave Robbers (From Outer Space)," "The Fatal Dose," "Fetish Queen" "Talk Shit, Spit Blood"

Videos: "Aileen"   "Talk Shit, Spit Blood" (live)
