Doyley & the Twanglords

Reverbatron   digital album

(Diablo Records)

Just as opening minutes flash walloping imagery of Venusian waves crashing green-sand shores -- while the Republic Robot shoots the single-digit salute to two-headed gremmies -- closer "Lost Soul" introduces Old Country accordian into fast-flung instro proceedings. Betwixt the two hurtle wordless wonders that explore just how far six-strings can go to unite Bikini Beach and Forbidden Planet.

Recommended: "Reverbatron," "MoonSurfer," "Il Monstro," "Badaboom," "Robostomp," "Lost Soul"

Philip Doyle

Rocky Road to Dublin   digital album

(Diablo Records)

Son of auld sod Doyley is exactly at home, amidst traditional airs smiled upon by comely Éiru. All stringed tools are handily plucked by the othertimes Psycho marauder. And his brogue calls up legions of hardy grandsires. May the road rise up to meet him.

Recommended: "Rocky Road to Dublin," "Wild Rover," "Tell Me Ma," "Craic at the Irish Rover," "Paddy O Doyle"

No videos available, but here's Doyley/Shamcock's 2024 version of "Tell Me Ma"

Guitar Slingers

Invasion

(Diablo Records)

Were a roundtable gathering of the world's most fleet string molesters convened, buzz cut bomb shot Doyley might well assume the head chair. Eruptive Psychobilly deviance and science fiction fantasies make Rabelais's "beast with two backs." So gaudy is the spectacle of an amphetemine, late-night Creature Feature on Saturn, as to conjure spirits of wreckers fallen, bashing their elbows into faces of more freshy misbegotten. The meeting will come to disorder.

Recommended: "Invasion," "Atomic Shock," "Let's Go," "Ska Trek Krew," "Alien Hooligans," "Martian Stomp," "Plasma Sting," "Rip Roarin' Rocketship," "Planet of the Drapes," "Earth vs Psycho"

No new videos available, so here's one from 2024: "Twangster"

Philip Doyle

The Guv'nor - A Psychobilly Tribute

(Diablo Records)

Various aspects of Psycho's grim visage are portrayed by distemperous rabble, who pack implements of mayhem. Ireland-birthed Diablo mastermind Doyley lays claim to such an extensive offense log in that field, and his Frankenstein Monster-presence towers so augustly, that the fact of his association suffices to impel wallet grabs. There will breathe no regretful spenders.

Also available at Bandcamp: "[A]ll the new music Philip Doyle creates, including this release and 21 back-catalog releases, delivered instantly to you via the Bandcamp app for iOS and Android."

More: "Backstage, I will add unreleased demos, albums that won't be on Spotify, etc., and I will put one of my albums every week. Join monthly, and you can also cancel anytime. There is also a 10% discount."

Bonus: "The satisfaction of knowing you’re supporting me in a sustainable way."

Recommended: "Daddy is a Vampire" (Highliners), "Last House on the Left" (Doppelgangers), "Rockabilly Psychosis" (Spellbound), "Final Kick" (Moonshine Stalkers), "Don't Fuck Around with Me" (Clockwork Psycho), "Hotel in New Orleans" (Jack o' Bones), "Ride This Torpedo" (Guitar Slingers)

Guitar Slingers

Greatest Hits   Digital-only release

(Diablo Records)

This reviewer rushes when opportunities to tout personal favorites present themselves. And Guitar Slingers - Psychobilly berserkers with Gretsch-batterer Doyley hectoring at their fore - ricochet between that category's perimeters. Various co-conspirators popped in and exited through years covered, but Doyley and lunatic fury were ever constant. Thunderation laughs derisively at speed laws. Trace elements of Morricone and outer-space hijinx percolate with Rockabilly rampage. Roky Erickson's Dr. Rorsach would surely drop his drawings if confronted by this crooked-grinned, LOUD deluge.

Sam Phillips had no idea the extreme to which his chance breakthrough would one day hurtle.

Recommended: "Fuck You," "Boppin' 'n' Shakin'," "Babylon's Burnin'," "Seven Deadly Sins," "Ska Trek Krew," "Fly with the X-ray Eyes," "Django Il Bastardo" Alien Hooligans," "I Feel Psycho," "Geraldine," "Psycho Mad 'n' Proud," "Hellhouse Stomp," "Psycho Cop," "Rise of the Cybermen," "Never Steal the Devil's Wheels"

Videos: "Fuck You"   "Fly with the X-Ray Eyes" (live 2015)   "Geraldine" (live 2014)   "Rise of the Cybermen"

Philip Doyle

Slingers Duo - Stayin' Alive   digital album

(Diablo Records)

Testament to the yowling pair's capacity is that they salvage "Stayin'Alive," the Bee Gees' atrocity that (at least in this precinct) always provoked regurgitation. One is floored by the spectacle of Philip Doyle's and Jeanmi Arnould's digits tearing up and down fretboards. Fold in their beer-hall voices thundering in jollification, and the admixture intoxicates.

Recommended: "Jim Dandy," "Seven Deadly Sins," "Big River," "Staying Alive," "I Love Rock'n'Roll," "Gone Gone Gone"

Video: "I Love Rock'n'Roll"  (Mecrin France)   private show (2:11)   tour promo (1:04)
