When mutton-chop Ton-Ups pound cobblestones with sharp brothel creepers, swing chains, and shift 'gars from one sneer-side to its opposite, it's likely Tom's Ted anthems that fill their pomaded noggins. Just as that was so in times when Tom's Swedish Black Knights had neighbors knocking on walls, so it remains true in 2026 -- with strutted confidence.

Impeccably rendered martial music for boulevard straight-razor yobs, whose uniform is drape and crepe (sideburns a frequent feature.) Rough and roundhousing Teds helped keep real Rock'n'Roll alive, while many dumbly dogpaddled in the hippie maelstrom. This veteran have-a-go trio roars in the same swingers-stomp militia as do Graham Fenton, Cavan Grogan, Tom Powder, and Furious. Look sharp, boys. 1 2 3 4...

Feet fly and rocker blood pumps satisfiedly when scene vets (Joe Chapman, Tony Thomas, Colin Larke, Steve Cage, and Lee Hodges) clamber beneath strobes and reinvigorate chestnuts. While no laboratory technology can determine sincerity, that vital quality is apparent here in great, big rhythms that shake the joint nearly to collapse. 

(Dedication can be espied in one online clip: lead guitar man Tony performs while wearing medical boot - recalls Virginny Catman.)

Sporting drape coats and beetle-crushers, with high spirits their commonality, credentialed Teds bound onstage.

The contrast between eminently dispatched, grand musicality and japes that, on occasion, prompt blushing, mark proceedings. Lead-off cut "All Asses Must Be Shown" is a ribald tale, fondling the Camping entry in the Carry On laugh-escapade movie bunch. Felicitous blonde Babs is touched upon as banjo strikes up rousing merriment, and group singalong wreathes all in smiles. 

Jolly tone having been set, tagalong cuts span stately (and frequently back-slappingly waggish) passages. Pop sunniness, Skiffle,  and music hall cavortings are numbered amongst. Evidence abounds that while jesters every inch, these spiffily attired gentlemen (including Pat Winn and Alan Wilson) know their instruments up the avenue and home again.

Having produced two CDs by Essen bop 'n' swing commandos Haunted Rhythm, Tessy now markets the group's first vinyl endeavor. Hold onto something (preferably someone curvaceous). Because per urban legend, spinning "Scare Dance" repeatedly before a mirror will summon jitterin' yesteryear spooks in leather and lace; their acrobatic gyrations - urged on by Haunted Rhythm's chain-swinging fever-jump - may well be matched by your own.

These audio slices wouldn't be of such slapback weightiness - as they indeed are - were it not for players' sure-heartedness - which roars on all avenues. Laid out are giddyup examples of kat stalwartness capable of "cutting ten onions into a hundred pieces, without crying a tear," as Black Knight Tom Powder once boasted. Add in that, along with fiercely-knuckled originals that locate the heptitudes potential in disparate tempos, the amplified agitators dash off distinctive swaying of Mr. Link's calling card. Rocker to the bone

One hardly need wait 'til track 20 - a chain-swinging cover of Cavan's 1982 "Hey Teenager" - to dig Aldo's blood-affinity with finger-popping drapes who march shoulder-to-shoulder along cobbled boulevards. All tunes preceding throw out identifiers: solid downbeats, twangs of mixed Hillbilly/Blues parentage, concise architectures that alternately cruise, swing, and stomp. Atop all that strides a man whose no-compromise delivery and Rebel posture indicate he swallows handfuls of Bop Pills when e'er the little red rooster crows.

Blowing Up a Storm

In years just prior to Psychobilly's acension as a wicked gleam in P. Paul's eye, English pomps and spikes slammed shoulders at gigs wrought by Whirlwind. On this, the combo's vinyl coming-out, traditions ring much more loudly than does modernity, but colorful crispness makes dashing declarations.

The last band's circa '77 members - Nigel Dixon, Mick Lewis, Phil Hardy, and Chris Emo - grabbed attention with jittercat rave-ups calculated to engender palladium pandemonium. The four sporadically pulled up short to render balladeering conducive to belly-rubs with baby dolls.

Follow-up Midnight Blue (see prior Juke Box Jury review) winningly dug far into like turf. Whirlwind's imprint echoed in bands who later hefted the roots banner, true, but slapping Blowing Up a Storm and Midnight Blue onto turntables produces singular kicks.
