Polecats
Polecats Are Go!
(Cherry Red Records)
As had the band themselves, 1981's Mercury-issued Polecats Are Go! gingered up the UK neo-rockabilly scene with dynamism and technicolor sparks that were compatible with the then-reigning Punk contingent. (It was a bold essence also characteristic of peers the Rockats.)
The Polecats followed in the creeper-steps of the European Teddy Boy movement. But rather than reiterating standards as first rendered, they reinvented orthodox stylings as newly-minted creations of electrifying being, ones that inspired fervant international adherants.
Reissued by Cherry Red Records, which has augmented the original LP with collector-attractive bonus tracks, the vibrant Polecats Are Go! no longer belongs exclusively to pop culture's past, but can now delight the unfledged.
