Dave Del Monte & the Cross County Boys

"Granada Bop" b/w "Can't Stand Noise"

(Self-issued)

Astute disc jockeys of the gone variety parade among Dave's admirers. His chucklesome observations, shared against romping arrangements, invariably amuse. "Granada Bop," though, diverges from that oft-trod course. The instrumental echoes recognizable airs and finds Dave holding tongue; instead he muses via upbeat strings that catch a ride on the dancing tempo. But his lyrical wit returns for original "Can't Stand Noise." The head-shaking lament portrays a captious neighbor and spotlights soloing whose Gallupesque zeal blooms by hot-rodding the Hornpipe air made famous by one-eyed Popeye.
