Johnny Thunders
Dawn of the Dead: Live at Max's
(Cleopatra Records)
Johnny's smarts flashed upraised finger amidst shambolism. Such was the bowery majesty of Mr. Genzale, and so massive the influence his ramshackle fret swerving had on subsequent generations of six-string kamikazes, that I feel zero compunctions touting this disc without having heard it. (A November issuance date was announced.)
Johnny's partners in junk-Punk included fellow erstwhile Dolls David Jo, Sylvain, and rimshot beater Jerry Nolan, as well as bowler-behatted and clown-tied Walter L. and Only Ones refugee Peter Perrett.
Available in both compact disc (limited to 450) and black/red/white splatter-vinyl incarnations (only 250), Dawn of the Dead: Live at Max's is assured open-armed reception by collectors and other enthusiasts who dig slam-crash-rollaround Rock'n'Roll that never tires of ravishing guitar necks and spitting scornful cuss words crowd-ward.

No related video at hand. But here's Heartbreakers live at CBGB's (1983), live acoustic "Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory" (1982 Paul Tschinkel's Inner Tube), and live "Pipeline" from 1987
