Marshall Crenshaw
The Bootleg Sounds of...
(Yep Roc)
Even were authorship of "Someday Someway" the sole feather Marshall had in his brim, he'd deserve acclaim. But, of course, there's more. A thorough rummaging through the Crenshaw attic turned up forgotten valuables, dating between 1984 and 1989: unreleased ear-poppers, as well as live documents and test runs. As embellishing as burnishment can be, gems in native conditions have sparkle all their own. (Sit-inners included Max Weinberg and Garry Tallent.) Added gelt arrives in the form of sympathetic reinventions of Gene V., Gene P., Jackie, and Buddy masterworks.
