The Termites

Square Go

(13 Deluxe)

A live-gig portrait that fucking roars. It's as if these Scotland skull-grinders have spent years since their 1985 genesis in cryogenic suspension, with additional aggro piped intravenously. Droogs include Kenny "The Duke" Mitchell, Scott "Bally" Ballantine, Ewin, Johnny, and Dougie. The five loose upon cheering rabble razored ricochets of ear-melting astoundment. Somebody stole the tires off an ambulance parked out front.

Recommended: "Overload," "Crazy Mama," "Kicked in the Teeth," "FTW," "Bad Man," "Devils," "Somebody's Gonna Pay," "Rockin' All Night"

Only dated videos are available: "Crazy Mama"   "Kicked in the Teeth"   "Rockin' All Night" (live)

Righteous45

Big Brain vs The Lie Detector   digital only

(Righteous45)

Some vintage novelty tracks merit contemporary obscurity, but not all. Lux and Ivy were famously aware, as was Dr. Demento (born Barry Hanson) before the Crampsian concoctors. The better of the breed cobbled musical whimsicality, oddball conceptions, and deliveries of unique aspect. Tilted laughworthiness defiant of the aging process resulted.

Along with exhuming Rock'n'Roll wax dimly recalled, Scotland's Righteous45 preserves madhouse tunery. For that, the curator deserves a ticker tape parade down along Happy Acres.

4 year-old Youtube comment: "So glad to see someone that appreciates Don’s music. Don was my cousin and sadly he died at a very young age. He never knew how many people appreciated his music. He was amazing and an unbelievable guitar player."

Videos: "The Lie Detector Machine" (Don Cole)   "Hey, Big Brain" (The Lettermen - not the identically-titled vocal trio of romantic ballad fame.)

The Twistettes

Red Door Open

(Last Night From Glasgow)

One has no option other than submission to The Beat, so all-encompassing is it, and so alluring its essence. Scottish sisters Jo (bass) and Nicky (drums) join powers to admix lilting Pop with twelve-mile depth that jars each and every bone in the skeletal structure. An overwhelming emprise.

CD and limited red vinyl iterations available.

Recommended: "Bounce Baby," "All I Want," "Ice Cream," "Big Boned," "Leaf Upon a Tree"

Videos: "Big Boned"   "All I Want"
