The B Movie Monsters
"12/05" single
(Self-issued)
The present writer being a lifelong devotee of rubbery drive-in creatures and pie-pan flying saucers on fishing wires, I rushed when this group's name beckoned. My reciprocation was rewarded with a rumbustious onrush of guitar-centered urging. The singer's foreboding intonations suited the narrative's tone, which was revealed to be darker in character than campy vintage screen frights. But this single satisfies niche appetite just as did, say, Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster, albeit with malevolent essence and ripsaw verve.
(In an online message, a band representative explained the title's significance: "12/05" is the date of Krampusnacht, a centuries-old and sinister German alternative to toy-laden seasonal celebration.)
